It’s the story we tell ourselves that reflects our attitudes and inherent values. In coaching, it is in helping clients uncover these, often underlying automatic commitments, that helps to set them free to co-author a new narrative about themselves – one that supports who they know themselves to be and who they want to become or are already in the process of becoming.
Premises:
The narrative coaching approach enables
- the client to see the problem for what it is – a problem;
- the client to explore their relation to the problem and
- allows the coach to support their client in making informed and empowered new choices based on their values and what they want.
My early work as actor in experimental theatre in the 1970s led me to see the value of this approach and integrate it into the KLM coaching approach through the Kaizen Coaching Model , which recognizes the need to heed, address and integrate internal and external realities. To change ourselves and our reality, we have to accept full responsibility for ourselves and make our choices consciously. Feedback “I started coaching to develop structure and focus in my life; to release some pent-up anger; not feel so overwhelmed by all my many creative ideas, and develop a deeper sense of trust in myself and others. Julia was really good at helping me return my awareness to my Self, challenging me to be centered and grounded in my personal values. This became a practice for me. Now after 8 weeks of weekly coaching sessions, I feel a deeper sense of peace.” Sanja Milanovic, Entrepreneur, Toronto
