Career Transitions Coaching to a New, Grounded You

Listen to Camilla Singh talk about how she reclaimed her career.

Career transitions are opportunities to reinvent, redesign your life in empowering and inspiring ways that transform and energize. Here’s Camilla’s story:

“I started coaching with Julia to be supported through a period of transition – leaving my job of 7 years, finding ways of staying grounded through the process, managing and then shedding negative feelings (blame, anger, feeling betrayed) about co-workers which were developing in me. I also wanted to reassess my life goals and plan for them, identify and change my limiting beliefs about what I can do with my life and further my understanding of how to balance my personal and professional goals.

Insights and Discoveries I gained in the Coaching Process:

  • Becoming less focused on the outcome of a situation and more engaged in the process of working towards an intended goal
  • Broadening my field of vision
  • Being able to be grounded and create space through conscious breathing while in the middle of confrontational and challenging situations at work
  • Empowering myself by gaining moments of feeling as though I can choose the direction of my life, that I can design my days, weeks and years
  • Re-connecting with the things that matter, both with myself and with other people
  • Immediate benefits of crisis management through grounding exercises
  • Recognizing and changing patterns of thought and behavior that were keeping me from being able to enjoy my work or feel at ease
  • Developing the practice of taking notes after meetings – which helped me develop the sense of respect for my own efforts, goals and vision for my life.
  • Discovering inner aspects of myself and their hold on me.

Julia, as my coach supported me extremely well, and in unexpected ways. At all times, I have felt a sense of openness from Julia when I was talking; a non-judgmental environment where the experiences and challenges I described and faced were considered relative to areas of growth and development rather than anything hierarchical.

Highlights include:

  • Defining my goals, my vision for my life and beginning to feel more and more like it’s ok to steer my life in the direction of what I want to do, to be, to achieve
  • Negotiating the resources I need to breathe and to design my life
  • Achieving a working situation which I didn’t think possible
  • Aligning my life with my dreams, and developing the practice of checking in to see if things have changed
  • Taking charge and managing inner aspects of myself, bit by bit, rather than the other way around.
  • Taking responsibility for my actions, for my life and through that, reaffirming that I have choices
  • Believing in myself more and more fully
  • Being supported through challenging negotiations and receiving all I requested from my employer and leaving on my terms made me feel really good!

Through the coaching experience I have learned some key things which have altered my experience of life on a daily basis. Here are some of them.

  • Learning to take time for myself, that it’s ok to plan my days, and my life, according to my schedule and interests.
  • Recognize my accomplishments and take time to celebrate them: the big ones, little ones and everything in between.
  • Listening to my body and the messages it has for me. (understanding the different ways that I hold knowledge and communicate with myself – internal guidance systems)
  • Stepping more comfortably into my seat of power. This is something that our coaching process has initiated for me and which I am currently working on. The coaching process and experiences I had along the way helped me to take note of my sovereignty, my empowerment
  • Finding the gift in a situation. This is another big one for me, not only because of the incredible benefits it enables, but also the degree to which it has just become a part of my approach and response to situations I experience. It’s also helped me to help others. One of my original goals was to be a positive influence on those around me. It’s also helped me to achieve another of my goals which was to change my limiting beliefs about what I can achieve in my life by altering the way I experience a situation and hence what it means to me about myself, the world I inhabit and what’s possible within it for me.

Camilla SinghVersatility has been an overarching strength which Julia has brought to the coaching process. Rooted in a keenly developed ability to listen, identify and summarize key thoughts and issues, Julia has a well-rounded set of practices to draw from and an insightful sense of how and when to apply them to a situation. She brought focus, professional experience, body work, meditation practices, structure, concrete tools to apply to situations when I was in the middle of them, project management templates and other professional resources as well as patience, guided meditation, energy work and clarity.  Thank you, Julia!” Camilla Singh

A year and a half after the coaching program, Camilla writes:

“Wow, lots has happened since we started working together and I’m finding that I get happier and happier as time passes.

I have a lot of projects on the go these days and am making things happen on my own terms with a quiet mind. My relationships with people are pretty good and continually improving and I am comfortably negotiating the terms of the engagement on a contract with a previous employer and feel good about that.”
