The self punishing mindset has many masks and a multitude of negative inner messaging loops or tape that can, if not caught and corrected, lead to the development of
- Eating disorders, binge eating
- Addictions as form of escape
- Body image issues and shame
- Feeling like a failure with an overwhelming sense of powerlessness, hopelessness, despondency manifesting as depression
- Fears of intimacy, anxiety, social isolation, panic attacks
- Feeling like a fraud, despite great achievements, and fear of being found out manifesting as anxiety, tension and stress
- Confusion – continual second guessing – lack of self-trust – not trusting your insights, feelings
- Feeling depleted, exhausted, frustrated and trapped
- Self-judgment, self-loathing and fear of abandonment
- Self-contempt/self-hatred that can lead to alienation, hurting self or others.
- Awareness of how self-sabotage, poor self-esteem, self-worth issues are ruining your life.
This inner messaging is what the mind creates to control your inner state and “keep you safe – in what you have come to know as you”. It is what years of habit of thought and emotion have created. It is your mental paradigm – your mental conditioning.
There’s always another way – a way out or a way in, a way around or a way over. In the last decade, neuroscience has shown us that our brain’s neuroplasticity is not limited. We can change our brain by what we think. It’s what and how we think that shapes our minds and develops our brains.
The challenge is that we tend to get stuck and accept our experience as a given…not, as result of action taken, whether physical, emotional, mental or intuitive. Once we recognize how we create our lives, our lives take a turn for the better and we become better and better and creating the life we want….the life we are here to live.
There is an antidote to everything under the sun.
The antidote to self-punishment is self-care born of awareness, forgiveness, compassion, self-acceptance and self love. Mindfulness coaching helps!
