Imagination is the Heart’s Best Friend

Balance is dynamic (not static) – a state of optimum health marked by rhythm and flow.

Optimum wellness is the felt experience of body, emotions, mind and spirit in a state of coherence – a state of openness, expanded awareness accompanied by a sense of oneness with ALL THAT IS, a feeling of true freedom and perfect abundance.

While many people may have experienced this state of “oneness” perhaps in fits and starts beginning in early childhood, or later in life through religious or spiritual practices, a key awakening comes with the insight that it is achievable and can be sustained through compassionate intentionality and the discipline of practice. It’s what I discovered through the practice of Therapeutic Touch®  with its foundational mindfulness practices  of compassionate intent, grounding, rooting and centering. Once you focus on living a practice, the energy you had previously directed into seeking becomes available to apply to practice development and life is lived consciously mindful, with intent.

Regardless of where you are in your life journey, what situation or circumstances you are currently experiencing, the first question, as a healer I would ask you is, “what are you hoping for?” And as a coach, “What do you want?”

Another miracle question that can help you transcend whatever it is that holds you down or back, is “And if, you could be whatever it is you want, already here, now, what would your life look like, feel like, taste like, etc.?” The more completely you allow yourself to explore and experience this ideal reality as if already real; the clearer your vision of the “ideal” life, the greater your ability to allow yourself to believe in it and the more quickly it will manifest.

The imagination is not a state, it is the human existence itself.
William Blake

The wonderful thing is that the brain cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined. This insight is put to good use by Olympic athletes, creative artists and performers of all kinds. So why, you may ask, has this which I imagine – which I want for myself not yet become real for me?

Consider for a moment

  1. How deeply engaged are you with imagining the ideal as already real?
  2. Do you believe you deserve if? Do you believe yourself worthy? Do you actually expect that it will come to you?

Asking or wanting something is still miles away from expecting that it’s yours to be and on its way.

What is actually in the way of the ideal manifesting as real?

The answer to this question when asked of my coaching clients  is always the same. They say, “me…I am in my own way!” This relationship you have with yourself – how you feel or think about yourself is shaped by a belief – usually held subconsciously, and often formed in early childhood in reaction to something you saw, felt, heard or experienced.

A belief is simply a thought that you keep thinking, often charged with an emotion, powered by judgment, which gives it strength and direction and becomes a feature of your mindset or ‘weltanschauung’. Ruminating on negative thoughts triggers associated feelings and memories which simply reinforce those negative patterns of thought affecting the body’s chemistry and your mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Once we’ve identified the belief that holds you prisoner and stuck, it’s like we’ve located the key to the cage you keep yourself in, but we haven’t yet found the lock. There are numerous other things your mind has created to distract us from the search which show up as fears – fears that prompt defensive or protective behaviour – more about those in my next blog. After all, it is the role of the ego and its right hand, General Amygdala, small almond shaped glands in your brain just above the ear, there to keep you safe just where you are in the realm of the familiar, which you’ve come to recognize as your comfort zone. Don’t mistake comfort zone with growth zone, though.

Preparing your soul to free the cage the mind has created for it, is to awaken your heart,  and strengthen it by actively listening, inwardly and then heeding your heart’s counsel. As Anais Nin so beautifully expressed:

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

And Dora Kunz who said,

“Through listening,

we feel ourselves part of the eternal rhythm,

one with the flow of the river.

It is like being washed clean of our distractions.”
