Underneath the busyness of our everyday lives and the incessant mental chatter, we are all infinitely wise and inherently intelligent. The greatest difficulty to accessing our inner wisdom is in stilling the mind and getting out of our own way, as learned from personal experience and then witnessed in my clients over the last ten years of coaching practice. Self-regulation is hard won.
Awakening the heart frees us. Relaxation is key. An attitude of permission, allowing, acceptance and awareness we release the energy otherwise tied up with doing – whether we are fighting, competing, comparing, winning, losing, defending, protecting, striving etc. and allow ourselves to just be.
Just being, we simply are…and so can begin to experience the flow of sensing, feeling, attending, abiding; being present to all that is, without judgement.
Thought is at the surface of our consciousness. Feelings lie deeper. When a thought resonates with us, a feeling arises in response and we become aware of the resonance or dissonance and recognize the thought that evoked the feeling for what it is. Holding space for this exploration into our inner world is what mindfulness coaching facilitates. Awareness is the greatest agent of choice. Inner awareness enables integration of thoughts and feelings resulting in self-acceptance and confidence.
As we relax our need to control, as happens in the safe space of a coaching or healing session, our awareness opens and deepens and we discover that we are one with an implicate order that is infinite, harmonious, pure – unconditional love. We may also recognize that this transcendent field of being is an opening, a gateway or portal to something mysterious that we are an integral part of. This insight enables us to surrender even more and we allow ourselves to be held, as if bathed in the universal soup of unconditional love, we intuit and experience. This is the experience so often shared by people after having received a Therapeutic Touch® healing session or after a particularly deep coaching session.
Confusion leads to disturbance, blocking awareness. It jams up the system compromising flow and depletes energy supply. And yet, underneath what we may experience as dis-ease, dysfunction or disturbance, we know, in the heart of our being that
“Peace, like the sun, is always present, though sometimes hidden.”
And it is this experience of Peace that we want. For when the confusion is cleared, we feel renewed, restored and refreshed. Love and light is all that remain.
It is when we stop resisting ourselves that we come home to ourselves, accept ourselves as we are and let go of all that we are not. It is this release that helps clear our field of confusion, clutter and debris.
In the Therapeutic Touch session it is the practitioner’s compassionate intent to help and the simply profound and profoundly simple Therapeutic Touch process that sets the stage for the possibility of healing to occur. The outcome is beyond our control yet our intention is always the same – to facilitate healing – movement towards wholeness and balance; to be of service. During the session, we may be aware of a subtle process of integration; an increasing sense of coherence experienced as enhanced wellness.
When we pay attention to what feels right and follow the guidance we receive as feedback from our system, rather than numb it, repress it or shut it down, we honour our inner wisdom and begin to empower The Leader Within.
