I see it time and again…how what a client believes shapes their perception and limits their experience.
What does it take to have an “open” mind? Why does it matter?
The assumption is that if your mind’s made up, you’ve come to a judgment and require no more information. Your mind is therefore closed and you direct your available energy to either holding or defending a position. Once you realize the power of your mindset or mental paradigm (beliefs)…you begin to see how you get in your own way.
Here are a few good questions to ask yourself if this is your experience:
- “Who is benefitting from this position I am holding and how?
- What value is this position I am defending or holding offering to me, to my family, my country, to the world?”
An open mind, is just that – open.
Not holding or defending a specific position, simply open, the open mind is open to perception, without judgment and open to receiving and processing “new” information. Available energy is directed to exploring what is and how you feel about it – your relationship to it.
This is not always easy as certain conditions must be met for openness to be possible…namely, you must feel safe from any kind of threat and trust that you will be supported and your insights and discoveries (uncoverings) will be honoured and respected.
A safe environment for openness and its subsequent healing, exploration, discovery is facilitated in coaching and healing relationships by building rapport (having resonance), obtaining permissions and establishing agreement that empowers the client to identify and define terms and conditions and set objectives for the process.
