Crafting New Year’s Resolutions that Stick is an Art and a Science

Crafting New Year’s Resolutions 1According to a recent article in Scientific American, “Getting discouraged by setbacks is one of the most common reasons people fail to meet their goals.” This, I am sure, is no great news. What’s important to learn is how to set and manage expectations. In doing that right, you’ll soon experience fewer and fewer setbacks. The small steps, kaizen approach enables you to do just that. You begin by clarifying and establishing your intention – your goal (what you want), desire (how much you want it), purpose (the big why) and your willingness to act (engage yourself wholeheartedly).

This preliminary intention-setting step is a deeply creative process that is facilitated through visioning and guided meditation that helps you to quiet your mind and get the small, limited you out of the way, and engages your deeper, intuitive authentic self in a visioning process.

Crafting New Year’s Resolutions 2Claude M. Bristol, author of The Magic of Believing, published in 1948, said it well,

“The person with a fixed goal, a clear picture of his desire, or an ideal always before him, causes it, through repetition, to be buried deeply in his subconscious mind and is thus enabled, thanks to its generative and sustaining power, to realize his goal in a minimum of time and with a minimum of physical effort.

Just pursue the thought unceasingly.

Step by step you will achieve realization, for all your faculties and powers become directed to that end.”

Crafting New Year’s Resolutions 3And Goethe, the brilliant German man of letters said,

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness concerning all acts of initiation and creation.

There is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:

that the moment one definitely commits oneself then providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of decisions issues from the decision.”

The Art of crafting resolutions that stick is expressed through the art of intention setting – intentions that are rooted in your values will compel your attention and focus.

The Science of crafting resolutions that stick is the method and practice of staying true, aligning your focus (goal) and every action step you take on a day to day basis. Here we’re talking about the discipline of daily practice. Having a coach as accountability partner is a great strategy until you are fully self-accountable.

The right coach can also help you craft your compelling intention and then help you stay true to yourself with weekly coaching sessions that focus your efforts. The results, as you can imagine, are realized much more quickly than you ever before thought possible. Schedule a complimentary discovery session today.
