Self Care – Enlightened Self-Interest

Self care – Enlightened Self-Interest1

Self care, as a personal commitment and practice, is an expression of respecting and honoring the Self. Cats have a lot to teach us in this domain!

Our attitude and outlook towards life, the quality of our energy, vitality and general condition will let us know, if we’re attentive, what we need to move towards balance in every moment.  The question is, how well do we listen?

Five Fundamental Self Care Practices:

  1. Self care – Enlightened Self-Interest2Practice being at one with yourself – simply sitting, being present, listening to the world inside and outside of yourself without judgment is a mindfulness practice.

Eliminate distractions and schedule a regular appointment with yourself. You may have a special place to meet yourself at a pre-designated time. Make this a sacred time – don’t let anything get in the way of this.

  1. Take time to recharge your batteries. Self care – Enlightened Self-Interest3By keeping your appointment with yourself you will know what you need to do.  Whether it’s more sleep/rest; more fun with friends; exercise; solitude; or self expression – take the information you receive and act on it. Energy healing sessions are deeply relaxing and restorative, alleviating stress, pain and anxiety and enhancing energy flow and immune function.
  1. Find time to laugh – Laughter yoga is recognized as a new medicine, releasing stress and muscle tension and increasing energy and flow; definitely enhancing your health and a Self care – Enlightened Self-Interest4positive outlook….great for the stomach muscles too!
  1. Move! Enjoy your physical body in motion. Muscles power life. Interact physically with the world around you for the sheer joy of movement. Whether it is expressive movement, ballroom dance, tango, competitive or team sports there’s nothing like feeling your body move through space. Discover how much more acute your senses are when you’re physically active.
  1. Reflect and contemplate. Take time to appreciate yourself, your relationships and the natural world. Self care – Enlightened Self-Interest5Journal your thoughts and see where they take you. Alternatively play music, paint, write poetry etc. Give thanks for your discoveries. Celebrate your achievements. The attitude of gratitude is good for the heart.
  1. Discover the peace within. The breath supports and sustains our life. Without the breath, we would not be. It’s what connects us to the universal sea of energy we are all part of. Meditation  as a regular daily practice helps us tune into this reality, grounding and centering us in the here, now and forever.

Holistic living is sustainable living. It requires a balanced approach that recognizes a healthy relationship to self as fundamental. Contact us for more information. We’ll be happy to send you a FREE Self-Care Assessment to help you get your bearings and establish initial benchmarks.
